It's not like I'm not motivated.īut I'm inclined to resist another "subscription" software situation, like I used to have with Cakewalk. So I need to work harder than I should have to.

Or think I need to own, but can't be sure, because I can't keep their terminology and naming conventions straight. Prob is, with Line 6, I feel like they're always trying to sell me something that I might already own. My POD is like part of my guitar, and turns it into a recording instrument.) That kind of convenient consistency alone would sell me on sims.

What's good - and this is where our processes coincide - is that between the standalone Gearbox for editing the POD from computer AND for saving patches from the POD to disk and PF plugin being able to both write and read those very files, patch management and tone consistency are made OCD easy. In any case, reamping - replugging - is assumed from go. I always record a dry or nearly-dry (eg maybe some thickening compression) from the POD, and monitor a approximate processed sound through another POD channel or sometimes through a plugin on the track I'm actually recording, if circumstances (eg latency) allow. I assume I can pay for a model pack so that it doesn't need the "dongle". After updating to PF2.5, I can unplug the X3 but I do lose certain models. The X3 was required to be connected as a dongle for it.

I paid something like USD$50 to upgrade to PF2.0. The subject of how the upgrade works is still not clear to me. Anyhow the same models are available on both the X3 and PF and its the best way to work with recording/playing guitar I ever encountered. With 2.x it is now possible to create/edit patches that are not loadable back into the X3, all the facts around this I haven't yet determined. I load the saved tone (using GearBox standalone) and then load it into PF and edit the sound of the recorded track(s). This allows me to refer to the sound I recorded with at any time, but totally re-work the tones on the track with PF plugin. I record the stereo out of the X3 on a stereo track in reaper along with a mono dry tone that comes out of the X3 loop send (set to pre).

I use it with a variax of which I am a huge fan. I have what I regard as an excellent workflow for recording guitar with X3 Live. I've been gradually transitioning to a new DAW and I put off dealing w installing my Line 6 products until last, just because they're such a pain. But as much as I love my POD and POD Farm, there's something abt being a Line 6 customer that I'm not totally thrilled with. If PF2.5 lets me go without a HW connection, that's good.

and watch its LCD grow increasingly dimmer because it's always on doing dongle duty. If I understand correctly, PF 2.5 will make it so I no longer have to use my X3 as a dongle for activating the plugins. Looks like PF 2.5 come with some kind of Gearbox replacement that'll still let me control the bean from my comp. For a plugin, I've been using the orig POD Farm plug, which I actually paid for. I don't mind not being able to use the Gearbox plugin, but I DO like using the Gearbox standalone app to edit the POD, and for patch/file management between the POD and my DAW's HD. They're freebies, which I first discovered via some patches made by Tedwood. I've pretty much standardized on Line 6, but I recently opened an older RPP that used some LePou guitar-oriented plugins that I thought sounded great. Like I said, Line 6's product line, it's upgrade policies, and the interactions between it's hardware and sw products seems unnecessarily opaque. The Platinum version is now $249 USD.Thanks for the replies.
